We are seeking a highly motivated individual to assist in carrying out original research using state-of-the-art single cell genomics and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technologies, with the goal of characterizing cellular diversity in the mammalian brain as part of a recently funded BRAIN Initiative award. The successful candidate will participate in this exciting project by applying cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering techniques to genetically label newly discovered cell types in mouse transgenic models. This individual will be an integral member of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, molecular biologists, genomics technologists, mouse geneticists, statisticians and computer scientists to develop and deploy new technologies for creating novel tools to identify and analyze the function of cell types in the mammalian brain.

Responsibilities:

Designing and constructing targeted constructs for CRISPR/Cas9 gene targeting
Maintaining mouse ES cell cultures; performing CRISPR/Cas9-based gene targetings in mouse ES cells and/or mouse embryos
Genotyping and characterizing transgenic ES cells and transgenic mice
Developing improved methods for genetic manipulations in ES cells and mice using CRISPR/Cas9-based technologies

Minimum/Basic Qualifications Required (By the time of application): Bachelors degree, or equivalent degree, in Molecular and Cell Biology, neuroscience, developmental biology, or a related field.

Additional Qualifications Required (by start date): Hands-on and demonstrable experience in routine molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, PCR, plasmid design and construction.

Preferred Qualifications (by start date): Excellent communication skills and careful attention to detail. Experience in mammalian cell culture or ES cell culture, and mouse genetics and transgenesis.

Appointment: This position reports to Dr. John Ngai. The initial appointment is 100% for 1 year with the expectation of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. The approximate start date of this position will be December 1, 2017.

Salary: $18.26/hour • $19.48/hour at 100% time, depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
