Junior Specialist, Step I-II " Genetics, Genomics and Developmental Biology" Molecular and

In development a single cell goes through a series of repeated divisions and these cells read the program encoded in their DNA in order to become familiar cell types such as those found in muscle, liver or our brains. The goal of our lab is to uncover the rules behind these decisions with the objective of predicting and manipulating developmental programs from just looking at DNA sequence. In order to reach this predictive understanding we combine physics, synthetic biology and new technologies to query and control developmental decisions in real time at the single cell level in the fruit fly embryo.
Responsibilities:
The position will focus on the early development of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster in order to reach a predictive understanding of developmental decision making. S/He will develop an experimental platform to test our theoretical models by creating synthetic developmental decisions.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications Required (At the time of application):
Bachelors degree, or equivalent degree, in Biology, Physics, Molecular and Cell Biology, or a related field.

Additional Required Qualifications (By start date):
The successful candidate will have at least two years part time OR one year full time doing molecular biology and quantitative microscopy in a laboratory. Experience with PCR, cloning, sequencing at the single cell level in the fruit fly embryo.

Preferred qualifications (By start date):
Excellent communication skills and careful attention to detail.

Appointment:
This position reports to Dr. Hernan Garcia. The initial appointment will be at 100% time for 1 year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. The approximate start date of this position will be February 2017.

Salary: $18.26/hour " $19.48/hour at 100% time, depending on qualifications. This position provides full benefits.
