Position description:
The Sr. Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for performing a wide variety of duties under general direction to contribute to the efforts and effectiveness of the environmental, health and safety of the organization as well as participating in the evolution of those efforts within Clients and its subsidiaries. These functions include consultative and advisory resources to the Company with regard to regulatory requirements of the Federal and State Agency (EPA and CT DEEP respectively), DOT and other environmental regulations, as well as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), industrial hygiene, accident prevention, workers compensation, health services, and employee wellness.

Position responsibilities:
Determine the impact that new environmental, health and safety laws and regulations will have on facility operations.
Advise and assist with the development, implementation and enforcement of new and existing procedures to maintain facility compliance with government and corporate environmental, health and safety requirements.
Oversee the North Haven sites environmental calendar, coordinate EHS audits, inspections, risk assessments and prepare computerized/manual records to support periodic EHS performance reports and monitoring activities (environmental and energy metrics, periodic inspections, sampling, DMR) as required by corporate and government agencies permit regulations.
Interface with consultants and legal experts to implement preventive and/or corrective actions to resolve regulatory and other potentially hazardous/unsafe conditions.
Assist in the recognition, evaluation and control of industrial hygiene hazards (ergonomics, ventilation, noise, light, X-ray and air sampling) and lead the associated resolution activities.
Investigate EHS incidents site-wide to ensure root cause identification and resolution.
Develop and participate in initial and ongoing EHS training for new and existing employees.
Coordinate EHS committee meetings and activities.
Insure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP and ISO), safety policies, and good housekeeping;
Interact with Facilities on a wide variety of projects including pollution prevention and control equipment and for emergency and natural disaster preparedness programs and planning. Periodically function as the on-call person, as scheduled by the Plant EHS Manager, for plant emergency response activities or to investigate serious incidents.
Assist Health Services functions in the management of incident prevention, including workers compensation claims processing and work-related medical case management, medical emergencies and medical screenings.
Support wellness functions including wellness and fitness programs, and the employee assistance program.
Attend to and work in support of a safe and healthy work environment. This includes following the established rules, policies and practices of environmental, health and safety with specific attention to the Clients Cardinal Rules.
Performs other duties and responsibilities, as required, with or without accommodation.

Basic qualifications:
Knowledge of monitoring equipment such as air quality monitoring equipment.
Knowledge of computer, office, and audio visual equipment.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements mandated by OSHA, EPA and other regulatory bodies
Knowledge of environmental, safety, health regulations and familiarity with wellness programs.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to coach, lead and train.
Ability to develop and make presentations to others.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Effective organizational skills.

Education required:
Bachelors Degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety/Industrial Hygiene Engineering
or equivalent.
CHMM, Masters Degree, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) desired.

Years Of Experience
5-7 years experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with Environmental reports such as Tier II, GPLPE, Biennial Hazardous Waste, DMRs, TRI, energy metrics, environmental metrics, UST requirements, environmental permit renewals, MISC GP, Air Emissions Calculations and other permit required reporting and documentation. Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management. Emergency planning and spill response. RCRA, DOT, IATA and HAZWOPER.
