Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C is recruiting for an Enzymologist for the Lead Discovery group, located in La Jolla, CA.

Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.

The Scientist will play a key role in a group of scientists working to identify novel small molecule lead compounds in collaboration with therapeutic teams focusing on Immunology, Neuroscience, and Metabolic disease. They will design, develop and implement enzyme assays and will be expected to contribute enzymology expertise to discovery projects at various stages. The position requires a strong ability to develop innovative approaches and a high degree of interaction with collaborators. Experimental work is an important part of the role and the successful candidate will spend a significant part of his/her time at the bench.

This role requires a minimum of a PhD with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and a track record of contributions to the field enzymology. The ideal candidate will have experience optimizing, validating and automating a variety of homogeneous high throughput assay formats for enzyme targets, including biochemical and cell based functional assays. They will be able to handle large data sets, interpret and present data for discussions in project teams. The La Jolla site has a highly interactive environment and the ability and desire for collaborative teamwork along with excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary for success in this role.
